Best Red Beans in Louisiana

I had another incredible meal at Roc Star Café in New Iberia—this time with Age. The red beans and rice might’ve been the best I’ve had in Louisiana. Mace Broussard built Roc Star from a food truck into a beloved downtown spot, serving up food with heart and heat.

Downtown New Iberia—once known as “White Row”—hasn’t always made space for Black-owned businesses. Mace changed that. With trust and support from folks like Mayor Freddie DeCourt, who went out on a limb to help make it happen, Roc Star took root in the heart of the city. But make no mistake: this is Mace’s story, Mace’s vision, and Mace’s damn good red beans.
